Mishicot is a charming village found within Manitowoc County. According to the 2000 census, the population was 1,422 but has increased over the last eight years. The village boundaries cover some 2.5 square miles, and the East Twin River passes right through it. At the time of the last census, there were almost 600 households within the village, giving a population density of around 550 people per square mile. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size 2.98. All age groups were well represented, giving a median age of 39.
The village was not officially incorporated until 1950, but its history goes back much further. In 1844, a saw mill was built by Daniel Smith and the village was born. When the village was officially founded in 1847, it had become quite prosperous and boasted three general stores, other retails establishment, six hotels, a grist mill, a movie theater and a local brewery.
